The first step in establishing candidacy
for weight loss surgery is to attend a free weight loss educational forum at Mary
Washington Hospital. This is an informal
meeting to help patients understand what
it means to have weight loss surgery, including characteristics of the different procedures, nutritional information and necessary lifestyle changes. Prospective
patients complete a health history questionnaire and hear about the
paperwork and medical clearances required before surgery. Every patient
must attend this forum prior to an appointment with one of our surgeons. |

The Mary
Washington Hospital weight loss support group helps patients reach post-surgery
weight loss and health goals through positive dialogue among people similar experiences.
Participants gather to discuss challenges and successes in their new lives. Additionally,
prospective patients are encouraged to attend the support group to better understand
how life changes after surgery. We want every patient to attain the highest possible level of success following surgery.

Directions on Getting to the Forum and Group Meetings:
These
meetings take place in auditoriums located in hospital’s Lower Level. Go through
the hospital’s main entrance and proceed to the bank of elevators
just past the information desk. Go to the LL (Lower Level). Take a right off the elevator, and
the auditoriums are at the end of that hallway (the cafeteria is located to the left
of the elevators). A sign
is always a posted for these meetings.
