Deanna Duvall is a registered dietitian who has practiced in the weight management field for over 10 years.  Deanna earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from Louisiana Tech, in Ruston, Louisiana.  She interned in Shreveport, Louisiana at LSU Medical Center, Schumpert Medical Center and Willis-Knighton Medical Center.  She has specialized in surgical weight management for the last 6 years.  Deanna has provided community education as well as private counseling.  She has worked with many people who suffer with eating disorders and has developed wellness programs to transition people back into healthy eating and living.  Deanna brings a great deal of experience to Bariatric and Surgical Associates of Central Virginia including having worked with more than 1000 bariatric surgery patients.

Deanna spends time with each bariatric surgery patient before surgery.  She prepares that patient for the changes that are going to occur.  Deanna concentrates on behavior modification as well as developing a meal schedule and supplies patients with a nutrition supplement regimen.  While in the hospital, Deanna visits each patient to check on their health and well being. Post surgery, Deanna is present at each follow-up.  She designs an individualized nutrition and behavior modification plan for each bariatric patient. She also co-facilitates the bariatric surgery monthly support groups.

Deanna is a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, participates on various boards and societies and is currently working toward obtaining her Health and Fitness Instructor Certification with the American College of Sports Medicine.  She is also an adjunct instructor with Stratford University. She holds a certificate in Adult Weight Management from the American Dietetic Association, is the Bariatric Sub Unit editor for the American Dietetic Association Weight Management Newsletter and participates with the Bariatric Committee within Sodexho, the nation’s largest provider of outsourced management services.
